THE NATURE OF MEDIA STRENGTH AND LEGITIMACY IN THE SOCIETY.The media, right from inception have been a great help to the masses. They have improved the lives of people around, the community and the world as a whole. The media has grown to be one of the strongest means of communication, correction and relaxation.

The nature of media strength legitimacy is based on it classification, which are mainly the traditional, print, electronic and new media.

 

1.Traditional Media: This is the first form of the media and the oldest following the classification. It can be known as the old way of communication or dissemination of information. The traditional media was used in the old for various reasons but solely to communicate news or message as the case may be. Examples are the gong, smoke, drums, ekwe and so on. Take for instance the smoke, in which some people call fire-smoke can be used in two ways either to draw in enemies or to announce a special passing or death of prominence. The later is common. Though in Igbo land, the case of death of prominence, the fire bomb is used the more.

When it comes to legitimacy the traditional is clear and straight to the core. You cannot joke with it like other media, when you make a sign, you cannot take it back and there will be severe punishment if message goes contrary to encoded.




2. Print Media: The point media is that which came after the traditional media. It is the passing of information through point, to bring it to lowest understanding; it is the passing of information through paper. The point media have come a long way to create or make a stand in our society. The common forms of print media are the Newspaper and Magazine. The delivery or way in which those two deliver its information is the same only that their strength contradicts each other.

While the newspaper is delivered daily, the magazine is delivered weekly, monthly, sometimes even twice-a-year or once a year. While the newspaper is flexible in size, the contrary is magazine, this is due to the kind of paper used in making newspaper, it is soft and light while that of magazine is hard. While the magazine comes with high quality colours which makes it very attractive, unique and more interesting the contrary is the newspaper which comes in lower qualities but there are reasons. They are both portable for reading and carrying around, they can both be read at leisure and though indirectly for newspaper they are audience selective.

When it comes to legitimacy the magazine has less issue, because it contains features, poems, interview and so on, things that are not immediate, though depending on the publication but the newspaper is contrary, its content can be bought, paid for or flexed with brown envelopes to journalist and this is where the challenge is because it limits the legitimacy and trust worthiness. Contents that deform a person or company can be put on newspaper but barely on magazine.

 

3. Electronic Media: The electronic media took over from the point media, advancing its ability, power and reach. The electronic media is basically the radio and television. The radio is the type of electronic media that deals or communicate mainly through sound to an heterogeneous audience while the television is that which uses pictures – both motion and still and sound to pass information. The strength of radio are that it is portable, that it can be used anywhere or carried along to appeals to a particular set of people that is why the radio has great flexibility, giving the heterogeneous audience various stations to choose from.




The strength of television are that, it allows for active demonstration of products, that is advertisements and other forms of commercials are more prominent, clearly understood and done continuously to meet advertisement demand. It is also the prime source of news, that is, all other media look for reports on to relate with, especially editorials. Also, most members of the mass do or highly rely on television for authenticity, because of its picture and sound features.

When it comes to legitimacy the television and radio are strong upholders of legitimacy that is why a major number of people are prominent depend on them but sometimes illegitimate contents could be aired, in most cases due to brown envelopes.

 

4. New Media: The new media is now the owner of information, it keeps knocking other forms off. The new media is the internet and it comes with a nephew called the social media and this have become the widest means of communication and just like radio, but even more, it can be used inside and outside the home, in fact anywhere, once you have data and access to internet. Examples of social media platforms are Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Palm chat, Snap chat, Imo, Instagram, Tumblr, Badoo and so on.

When it comes to legitimacy the television and radio are strong upholders of legitimacy that is why a major number of people are prominent depend on them but sometimes illegitimate contents could be aired, in most cases due to brown envelope
