Who is Hon. (Sir) IFEATU EMEKA OBI-OKOYE?

Hon. (Sir) IFEATU EMEKA OBI-OKOYE, simply refered to as Emeka Obi-okoye was born on the 28th of February 1958,to the late Hon.Justice Alfred and lady comfort Obiokoye of Umu-okefi kindred in Nkwelle Ogidi, Idemmili North in Anambra Central.

EDUCATION:
He commenced his early education in 1963 at All Saints Primary School, Enugu (a Scottish missionary group owned private school) State. Thereafter in 1970, was admitted to Government College Umuahia and graduated from college in 1974 after successfully sitting for and passing the west African school certificate in flying colors. In continuation of his education, he was in 1975 admitted to study Law at the University of Nigeria Enugu campus (UNEC), where he graduated in 1979 with a first degree in law – LLB (Hons) and then proceeded to the Nigerian Law school where in June 1980, was called to Bar as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
His professional carrier commenced in 1981 after the National Youth Service programme in Jos, Plateau State. Hence he set up a private legal practice in Enugu under the name and style of OBIOKOYE & COMPANY, LEGAL PRACTITIONERS. This law firm has since established an annex office in Abuja. In his private legal practice therefore, he has been engaged and retained as Solicitor and as Counsel by notable corporate organizations, communities and companies such as …Federal Road Safety Commission, Federal Mortgage Bank, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, BEWAC Nig.Ltd., Amamba Abiriba community, Enugwu-Ukwu community, Izzi -Abakiliki community, Ibagwa Nike community, Gemex Nig Limited, Oskoy Holdings Nig Ltd, Ivosky Nig limited, Develin Nig Limited.., to mention just a few.



He is also a proud author of a notable law practice book titled… “LAW PRACTICE DIGEST” . Also, between 1984 – 1986 was the secretary of Anambra state Law Reporting Committee and within the same period, Member of Anambra State Law Review Committee.

 



IFEATU EMEKA OBI-OKOYE AS A POLITICIAN?
Ifeatu Obiokoye’s political carrier spanned from the 2nd Republic, when in 1983, he contested and was elected a Member of the Anambra State House of Assembly on the platform of the defunct Nigerian People’s Party (NPP) and Chairman, House Committee on Public Petitions as well as Deputy Chairman, judiciary committee of the (old) Anambra state House of Assembly.

 

In 1992 he was elected State Secretary of Social Democratic Party (SDP). In 2002, also, he was elected Deputy State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Anambra state chapter, and in 2003, became the acting State chairman of PDP, until 2005.



Hence as acting State Chairman of PDP, he midwifed,the election Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige as Governor of Anambra State. During the same period, he midwifed the election of 29 out of 30 seats in the State Assembly elections of 2003; and similarly, he midwifed the election of 13 out of 14 National Assembly seats contested, for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

 

In 2015 he became The National Publicity Secretary, Chief Spokesman and Image Maker for All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). He played a major roll in the November 2017 governorship election that led to the overwhelming victory of APGA winning in all the 21 LGA IN the state.

 

It was his vast experience and advice that made HE the governor of anambra appoint him as his SPECIAL ADVISER ON POLITICAL MATTERS a position he is holding till date.



His political experience and advice assisted resolving the crisis that would have rocked the party after the 2018 APGA primaries. Further more as the political adviser he brought out the formula that led to the overwhelming victory in the house of Assembly with APGA securing 24 seats out of 30 and 5 house or representatives seats out of 11.

 

IFEATU EMEKA OBI-OKOYE: CHRISTIAN AND MARITAL LIFE
As a devoted Christian, he was in 2005 made a Knight of St. Christopher of the Anglican Communion, Church of Nigeria as well as in 2004; he was admitted to the prestigious nze na ozo society in Ogidi community and conferred with the title “Ogbunechendo Ogidi”.

 

He has without doubt served Ogidi community in several capacities, but most notably in the special area of peace and conflict resolutions. Hence in January 2016, Ogidi Union Nigeria appointed him the Chairman of a seven member Peace and Reconciliation Committee which has played a critical role in sustaining peace in Ogidi community.

 

Hon (Sir) Ifeatu Obi-okoye is married with two children. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management(FCIM).
