Beijing has been selected to host the 2022 Winter Olympics , making it the first city to have hosted both Summer and Winter Games .

This was announced on Friday morning by  International Olympic President, Thomas Bach, after the selection, stepping over Almaty in
Kazakhstan, who was also in the running.

The decision was made at the 128th IOC session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The city plans to hold the ice and snow events in Zhangjiakou in Heibei Province, 190 kilometers northwest of the city.
