The Delta State chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Kingsley Esiso and the good people of Sapele are at loggerheads, singing different tunes.

On Wednesday, 22nd April, notable Sapele Political Leaders invited Mr. Kingsley Esiso to prove his local government.

The incumbent chairman, on Wednesday evening, has been given up till Saturday evening to prove he has claims to the PDP chairmanship position micro-zoned to Sapele Local Government.

In a statement in Sapele, the leaders declared the second term bid of Mr. Kingsley Esiso as a huge joke.

Signed by the member representing Sapele Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Felix Anirah, former commissioner in the defunct Bendel State, Mrs. Margaret Unukegwo and other notable leaders in the local government, the leaders endorsed the former chairman of Sapele Local Government, Mr. Godwin Atose for the Delta PDP chairmanship.

Specifically, the leaders informed the good people of Delta State that they had rejected Esiso.

Esiso was purportedly adopted by some political appointees in the local government but Sapele political leaders on Wednesday described the endorsement as an exercise in futility.

‘’They lack the authority to do so on behalf of Sapele PDP.”

The leaders described the recent publication by some desperate political appointees as a mischievous trick of these individuals to remain relevant in the political space.

The political leaders are arguing that Esiso is not a card carrying member of Sapele PDP.

‘’It is only just and fair that a true Sapele son should be the next chairman of the party.’’

Prior this situation, it was thought the incumbent PDP chairman will go to sleep with his two eyes firmly closed having been assured by some Anioma politicians that he remains the sole candidate for the chairmanship.

Last week, supporters of the incumbent chairman said Kingsley Esiso came from the Fregene family in Amukpe. They also said the incumbent PDP chairman would be thrown up as the next governor of Delta State. Also, Esiso’s hand was evident in the selection of ward and local government officials in the state.

The PDP leadership in Delta Central is pushing for a true Urhobo son in 2023.

‘’Never shall we condone the systematic and continuous marginalization of our people in Delta State. Esiso is no longer a member of Sapele PDP,’’ the leaders said.

A source expressed the possibility of notable PDP leaders in the state decamping from the party should Governor Okowa goes ahead to impose Esiso on the people.
