2023: Igbo president will benefit the north more than the Igbos – Agbo

An ex lawmaker at the 6th Senate, Anthony Agbo Wednesday said that an Igbo president will benefit the north more than it will ever benefit the Igbos, and even far more than any northern president can ever benefit the north as a result of the avowed Igbo liberal spirit and nationalistic dispositions.

Agbo spilled this while also exposing plots by northern politicians to draft former President, Goodluck Jonathan to run for presidency in 2023 under the All Progressives Congress, (APC). This is said will reinforce and complicate the problem which the northern political interest group intend it to solve.

Senator Agbo, who represented Ebonyi North in the red chambers in 2007 and former Speaker, old Enugu State House of Assembly explained that the another single term arrangement being proposed for Jonathan with a view to returning the presidency to the north in 2027 can only be good for Nigeria and Nigerians but will jeopardize the chances of the north in 2027.

He stated that at the end of that tenure in 2027, the agitation for Igbo presidency will become so fierce, so desperate and uncontrollable that the north itself and the rest of Nigeria will have no option than to grant the Igbos their chance, thereby having the presidency in the south for three tenures.”

Agbo, who is a member of the so-called ‘National Interest Group’ of the 6th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the group of Senators who came together to midwife the transmutation of President Jonathan from Vice President to President after the death of President Yar’Adua, stated that, “another Presidential tenure in 2023 for Goodluck Jonathan will gladden the hearts of many Nigerians because of his soft and humanist disposition to governance but shall certainly end up as a nightmare for the northern interest group that propagated it.

According to Anthony Agbo, “at the end of that tenure in 2027, the agitation for Igbo presidency will become so fierce, so desperate and uncontrollable that the north itself and the rest of Nigeria will have no option than to grant the Igbos their chance, thereby having the presidency in the south for three tenures”.

He recommended that because of the rising political awareness and the insistent and deafening cry for justice all over Nigeria, there seem to be no other way forward for Nigeria than to take a bold and decisive step to heal the nation by breaking down the walls of suspicion, fear and inhibitions that separate us and assuage whatever genuine feelings that burden the major segments of the Nigerian nation.
