When a lie is allowed to run for long, it begins to take the coloration of truth.

The Nigerian general election has come at a cost to all of us, regardless of which divide you belong. Unfortunately, History is no longer prominent even in our academic citadels, and so we cannot say if the lessons of this era will be learnt as I see people deliberately subverting histories already, by propounding a blatant lie that should be rejected by all lovers of truth.

One of the terrible lies that have been told is that, Peter Obi ran an ethnically and religiously divisive campaign of all the candidates.

THIS IS A LIE from the same persons who were quick to label Obi’s supporters fondly called “OBIDIENT” as being “toxic” and “intolerant”. While they turned blind eyes to actual incidences of toxicity and brutal intolerance by followers and political thugs of the APC candidate!

Peter Obi is the ONLY man who campaigned across Nigeria speaking one language, ENGLISH! He did so even when he campaigned in Igbo land.

All the other candidates consciously exploited the ignorance of their tribesmen, manipulating them in Yoruba and Hausa at every instance where they campaigned in those regions.

We heard “Yoruba ronu”. While the rest of Nigerians supporting the Labour Party candidate, unified in the need to have good governance, resounded #PeterIsBetter Peter Obi inspired a clean, non toxic campaign. At every provocation, he asked everyone to be “calm” and “patient”.

Whereas, the other candidate was caught on several videos schooling his followers on violent oppression and suppression of voters.

We had a candidate who picked a Muslim Muslim ticket, and claimed there were no Christian from the north strong enough to wield political numbers that can make a president. Was Peter Obi even a candidate at that time? His running mate is a seasoned academia from the North and a core MUSLIM.

What exactly was religious about Obi’s campaigns? He went to churches as a Christian!

But the first man to be photographed with a Pastor just after his mischievous MUSLIM MUSLIM ticket, was Bola Ahmed Tinubu who had gone to see Pastor Enoch Adeboye in the wake of the night.

The same man had rallied fake bishops to prove a faux endorsement, showing a man desperate for religious approval.

How many times was Peter Obi pictured amongst religious leaders that Tinubu wasn’t? There were countless photographs of BAT worshipping in Mosques, yet Obi couldn’t be seen at a church gathering otherwise he’d be termed a bigot.

Please! The dishonesties are nerve grating. Stop it!

You had Muslim leaders gather in a full room to endorse Tinubu, because according to them, “he will defend the Muslim Faith”.

Name ONE moment when CAN or PFN uniformly convened in a room to endorse the candidature of Peter Obi.

None.

We had countless videos of Pastors denouncing partisan politics, because according to them, they were fathers to all.

I understand how hard it is to accept the disruption that Obi, whose candidacy was hitherto written off by “analysts” as inconsequential. Some mocked and laughed openly, only to be proven wrong by a generality of Nigerians who couldn’t wait to send the APC packing!

Peter Obi has inspired so many positives in our politics. One of which is the fact that, no politician will ever take the collective will of the Nigerian voting public for granted.

That the country has remained peaceful inspite of the brazen robbery by INEC, should be credited to the person of Peter Obi.

The man ran a clean campaign. CLEAN.

You don’t have to accept it.

You must not like him, but you cannot take this credit from him; that would amount to bearing false witness.

Peter Obi is the best!
