24 Hours After Elections, 66% of South East’s Results Missing From INEC’s Portal

How the Economy of the Former Eastern Region Was Planned and How the Civil War Truncated It

Twenty-four hours after the general election took place in almost every state of the federation, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has only uploaded 33.4 % of the total votes it received from the South East on its portal.

The 2022 Electoral Act guiding the conduct of the 2023 general election stipulates that presiding officers upload the results of the polling unit to the INEC Result Electronic Viewing (iREV) right after voting.

The south eastern part of Nigeria has Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo in its catchment areas, with a total figure of 20,803 polling units.

According to FIJ observed that by Sunday evening, out of the 5,720 polling units in Anambra, home country to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, results of 2,343 polling units were available on the result portal. This is a total of 41% votes from Anambra.

Ebonyi has 2,946 polling units across its 13 LGAs. On the INEC portal, results of only 337 polling units have been uploaded to the portal. This is about 11.4%.

In Imo’s 13 LGAs and 4,380 polling units, 2,047 polling units have no result on the portal (46.7%). The portal only has results from 2,333 (53.3%) polling units in the state.

In Osisiome local government area, only results from eight polling units were uploaded to the iRev.

Enugu has 4,145 polling units spread throughout the 19 local government areas in the state. According to the INEC iRev portal, 934 (22.5%) results from the state are available on the website.

Across Abia State’s 4,062 polling units, 1,276 (31.4%) results have been uploaded from the 17 LGAs spread in the state.

These results show that 66.6% of the presidential results from the South East are still missing.

There have been reports of mass disenfranchisement of voters in some parts of the South East due to violence and the absence of electoral officials.
