8 Senate: Why we didn’t confirm some of Buhari’s appointees – Saraki

Nigeria needs president with enough stamina, not one who‘ll depend on aides only – Saraki

A former President of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki has stated reasons why the 8 assembly did not confirm some appointees as nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Saraki was the 13th President of the Senate from 2015-2019.

He anounced through his official twitter handle @Bukolasaraki, “When we didn’t confirm certain appointees, it was because we did our due diligence.

“When we invited the IGP & the security chiefs, it was because we wanted to find solutions to the issues of insecurity at the time.”

“It was never about a personal agenda. It was always about Nigeria!” Saraki tweeted.

Saraki said the decisions the house took under his leadership were in the best interest of the nation.

“The positions we adopted, and the interventions that we embarked on were in the interest of the nation.” he said

Ibrahim Magu, former acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was one of the nominees rejected by the Saraki-led senate.

Magu was not confirmed as the substantive chairman of the commission owing to a report by the Department of State Services (DSS) which accused him of corruption in 2017.

But Magu has now been indicted of corruption by a presidential panel that probed him after Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), wrote a memo to Buhari, accusing the former anti-graft czar of gross malfeasance.
