8 Yabatech students in court for stealing and possession of charms; granted 50k bail each.

Eight Yabatech students were on Tuesday, 9th October brought before an Ogudu Magistrate Court for stealing and possession of charms.

The accused, Lawal Ahmed, 23; Ogunyemi Oluwayosi, 19; Samuel Irikefe, 17; Godwin Etim, 23; Abayomi Badmus, 24,  Chiemeka Oluwaseyi, 21; Promise Agbogwu, 20; and Benedict Isichie, 18 were said members of Eiye Confraternity.

They were allegedly arrested with charms and stole N5, 000 from another student on campus.

The faced three charges of conspiracy, belonging to a secret cult and stealing.

According to Police Prosecutor Lucky Ihiehie, they committed these offences on Friday, September 21st around 10pm at Yaba College of Technology.

The offences contravened Sections 42 ­(a), 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The complainant (name withheld) had told the police at Sabo Station that he was on the campus when the suspects accosted him and collected his phone, Automated Teller Machine card and withdrew N5, 000 from his account.

The case was later transferred to the Anti-cultism Unit, Gbagada, on Tuesday, 25th September were the suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, granted them bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

She also directed that the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment.
