8year-old Nur Nazihah Mohd Sabri Killed by Swarm of Hornets

An eight-year-old-girl, named locally as Nur Nazihah Mohd Sabri, has died after toxins from the hornet stings caused her organs to fail, according to a health official in Dungun, Malaysia.

 

The young girl was stung to death by hornets after she got stuck in a fence while trying to flee the swarm of insects.



Nur Nazihah Mohd Sabri, was playing with her younger brother and friends on a hilltop when they were attacked.

She died a few hours later in hospital after toxins from the hornet stings caused her organs to fail, a local health official in Dungun, western Malaysia said.

 

The alarm was raised when the girl’s six-year-old brother, Muhamad Azib, ran back to their home covered in stings and swelling, and told their mother what had happened.

 

The children were playing on a hilltop near the home on Saturday night when they were stung by hornets.



A huge nest was later discovered in a bush nearby.

 

Muhamad rushed home to his mother Rohayu Mat Lazim covered in stings and swelling to inform her, and she took both children to a nearby health clinic.

 

Nur Nazihah Mohd Sabri was stung 65 times as she was swarmed by hornets.

The siblings were then taken to Dungun Hospital at around 8pm before being transferred to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ), according to the mother.

 

She added that her daughter was very weak by this time.

 

The eight-year-old girl, who suffered 65 hornet stings, died at around 1.30am on Sunday, according to reports.



Terengganu health director Dr Nor Azimi Yunus told local media: “She died due to internal organ failure from toxins released by the hornet stings.”

 

Local media said that the girl became stuck on a fence while the group of children fled from the hornets.

 

The mother said: “I don’t know how they could have gone there to play as my husband and I have reminded them time and again to avoid the area.”
