A CASE STUDY OF EMEKA IHEDIOHA GOVERNMENT – – Honestly speaking, without mincing words, one thing about Nigerian Politics and Politicians is, “absence of continuing”, you can call it “no continuity”, especially among our governors.

This is the major reason most Governments and governors fail. When Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha CON, was removed as the governor of Imo state, on the 14th of January, 2020, by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, a lot of people cried. Ardent members of All Progressives Congress (APC) Action Alliance (AA), All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), and other political leaders, cried, members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), wept, though there were some people who were very happy he was removed, both PDP members and other parties’ members, especially those that were neglected, those that Ihedioha’s appointees insulted and those that want(ed) there party to be the ruling party. The major reasons most PDP members wept, members of other political parties cried, include, the speed and quality at which Ihedioha’s government was using on reconstruction of roads, and other things, that’s, if the new government will continue like that. Yesterday, I went to old Nekede road in Owerri, I wept, in fact, I have concluded that anything that will make me pass through that road from July, I will postpone it till December, the roads are bad again.

When I was going (leaving), I passed through Futo-Polynekede road, and saw what Ihedioha did on that road, very nice, but more works still need to be done there. One thing I like during Governor Uzodinma’s inaugural speech, was, when he said that, he will continue from where Ihedioha stopped. But it is obvious now, that bad Advisers and Sycophants cannot allow him to concentrate. I have also discovered that, apart from intoxication of power, one of the major reasons most governors fail is, allowing their advisers to tell them unnecessary and wicked things.

To cut it short, what am saying is that, the 7 and half months period in office, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, did a lot of good things in Imo state. Many roads were reconstructed, pensioners were paid, workers salaries were paid regularly, and 100%, against 70% by the previous Government, a lot of changes numerous to be enumerated and elucidated now.

On this note, the best thing Hope Uzodinma Government can do now is to continue on the roads and other areas Ihedioha Government did well. Before Ihedioha came to power, the Umuahia-Obowo-Mbaise federal road was not motorable, but today, it is not only motorable, but also sweet in driving. One significant thing Ihedioha Government did on the roads was that, he used construction companies that have surnames to work on the roads, another thing is that, most of them, he paid more than 80% upfront to most of the contractors, which made it possible that, up till now, some of them are still working (after almost 4 months of Sen. Uzodinma in power).

Without blaming Sen. Uzodinma now, the truth is that, within Ihedioha’s period as Governor, a lot of positive changes were accomplished, therefore, another truth is that, Uzodinma’s administration should practically continue from were Ihedioha stopped. FUTO-Polynekede road was a death trap before the Government of Ihedioha came to power, but today, having been done more that 60%, by Ihedioha Government, it is now one of the good roads in Imo State, but if nothing is done, if it is not tarred by Uzodinma Government, it will be another trap, by the end of raining season this year, in fact, it may become beautiful nonsense, if it is not tarred.

Finally, we, Ndi Imo, are calling on Governor Uzodinma, to continue from where Ihedioha stopped, especially those areas that are conspicuously clear that Imo people were very happy he practically and positively touched them. What is worth doing, is worth doing best.
