A total blackmail on Senator George Akume

A total blackmail on Senator George Akume. – – “To put the records straight, especially, for the people of Zone A and Benue at large so that they will have correct information on the matter of the approved FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC WANNUNE, TARKA LOCAL GOVERNMENT.

For those who are conversant with law making, getting a PRESIDENTIAL ASSENT to a bill has huge financial implication like proposing for the establishment of an institution

A total blackmail on Senator George Akume

Federal legislators know that such bills except if presidential assent is guaranteed, become stunted and abandoned.

Many federal legislators have sponsored bills proposing the establishment of schools. For example, Senator Dino Melaye from Kogi State sponsored a bill for the establishment of Federal University of Agriculture, Kabba and many others have done same but all these never saw the light of day.

WHAT IS THEN THE STATUS OF FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC ADIKPO?

The bill for the establishment of Federal Polytechnic, Adikpo has not received presidential assent even till date. This implies that, Federal Government can’t vote money for it. Until the President assents to the bill. Remember, there are several of such bills from many members of the National Assembly.

Infact, another bill for the establishment of Federal University of Health Sciences, Bida was sponsored recently and has not yet gained Presidential Assent just like the Federal Polytechnic Adikpo.

It is therefore, important to let people know the correct information. If any body claims that approval for the Federal Polytechnic, Adikpo has been given by the Federal Government, let such fellow show the approval document !

IS THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC, ADIKPO APPROVED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT?

No! There is no Federal Government approval for the polytechnic yet. The public must know that when Sen. Gemade was Chairman, Senate Committee on Works in the 8th Senate, he included in the 2018 budget, the construction of the gate, part of the fence and five blocks for workshop/laboratories for the proposed Federal Polytechnic. It should be noted that Committee Chairmen have such powers to include projects within the financial permissible limits.

CONCLUSION

This is yet an additional educational institution in BENUE STATE, irrespective of its location, should be celebrated.
It behoves on us to put a stop to these rancur and bickerings and instead look at the huge socio- economic benefits this establishment will bring to our people.

I will like to enjoin all top Federal and State public office holders to issue a joint-Communique of APPRECIATION to the Presidency for this genuine act of advancing education in our dear state, BENUE.”
