Abdulrasheed Maina Arrested In Niger Republic

Abdulrasheed Maina was arrested by the Operatives of Nigeria Intelligence Service and Anti-Corruption Agents on Monday at Niger Republic.

The embattled chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT) was arrested based on a security agreement between the two West African countries.

Maina who had been taken to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over a 12-count money laundering charge, was found in the neighbouring Niger Republic on Monday, November 30.

This online news medium gathered that the embattled PRTT chairman disguised under a private firm to exploit the Pension task team of about N2 billion.

He was also alleged to have acquired properties with the loot in Abuja, the Federal capital territory of Nigeria.

After a thorough investigation, an order of his arrest was pronounced by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja, a verdict which indicted his surety, Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial district.

Senator Ndume was remanded in prison after Maina supposedly fled to Niger where he went into hiding.

However, in the later hours of Monday, November 30, the indicted Senator regained his freedom after security operatives in Niger handed the embattled PRTT chairman to Operatives of the Nigeria Intelligence Service and Anti-Corruption Agents, Jameela News obtained from a top security officer who spoke with PR Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, claimed the agency had not been officially informed about Maina’s arrest.
