Adunni Ade: I was turned down for movie role due to my looks

Actress Adunni Ade has revealed that she was once turned down for a movie role because of her looks.

The light skinned actress recently made this known with actress and TV host Bisola Aiyeola.

According to her, she attended an audition and was sure she got the role but the director turned her down saying she looked ‘too sexy’.

She said: ” I hardly attend auditions for personal reasons but I attended one and I was sure I killed it but the director sitting right there said no that I look too sexy for that character even though I was dressed for that character.

“I didn’t have on high heels, my outfit was like a secretary and I was supposed to be best friends with the boss of the firm and he wasn’t convinced, he said oh I’m taller than the boss and that was a problem for him.

“So he had me take of my shoes for the second time, we did the reading again and it was even better than the first time. In my mind I was like ‘yea I gat this’ based on talent not looks but I got a call back saying no that the person who had contacted me said she was outnumbered and they went with the more obvious reason, the shorter person.”

Earlier in an Instagram post in 2021, the 39-year-old revealed that her father was hurt and disappointed when she got pregnant out of wedlock, and he cut off all her financial support.

In a in a tell-all interview, said she grew up without her mum and her father and step-mother did not give her the best care.

The single mother opined that Nigerian men, single fathers, cannot take care of their child.

In her words; “I hope I’m not being mean by saying Nigerian men, they can’t really… single father, can’t really just take care of their child, so they have to put the child here and put the child there.”

Adunni Ade later defended her dad, saying he’s her everything, because he was doing everything he could to provide for her.

Recalling her childhood, she stated; “It was really a dark period growing up here, I remember more of hurt than happiness. When I left Nigeria after I graduated from secondary school, and I went back to my mum. You know, that was always my dream-to be with my mum.

“I did not realise then, the damage of her [mum] not being around had caused. Now, she was also dealing with her own demons, we’re just clashing, I just did not feel the love and care that I ought to have, even from a very young age.

Speaking about the father of her children, she revealed the over eight years’ relationship wasn’t the best also; she described it as darker situation than she experienced during her juvenile days in Nigeria.
