The statement reads –
Sequel to the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police by the Inspector General, Mohammed Adamu, our planned march to the Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigeria Police, slated for Tuesday, October 13, 2020, has been put on hold.
While awaiting full implementation of the IGP’s order, we wish to thank patriotic citizens who overwhelmingly indicated interest to defy the odds by thronging streets for protest on Tuesday.
We are thankful to civil society groups for the solidarity.
Special thanks to Barrister Inibehe Effiong, Barrister Augustine Asuquo, and the entire team at Inibehe Effiong Chambers.
We also thank Barrister Clifford Thomas for the show of solidarity.
We urge everyone to remain calm as we monitor the situation.
Let us keep our spirits high even as we explore how to best address other human rights issues in the polity, especially as they concern the police establishment.
The next line of action shall be communicated to all concerned.
