AMOSUN, FORGIVE US FOR LYING AGAINST YOU

AMOSUN, FORGIVE US FOR LYING AGAINST YOU

We used to have a governor in Ogun State who was passionate about placing the state on a par with other developed states across the world.

He moved Ogun from being one of the poorest in the nation to one the third state with the highest Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

We didn’t appreciate him that time. We didn’t value his prowess in turning around the fortune of Ogun State.

It wasn’t our fault. We didn’t hate him. But politicians were peddling lies against him. They painted him black and made him look like a devil. We didn’t know it was just their own way of calling the dog a bad name to hang it.

We were so naive about the intrigues of politicians. We didn’t know it was all political. They would sit in a room, compose lies and shared same through the social media. They would even give us to share. We didn’t know they were lying against him.

Don’t blame us, those doing these jobs were people who have dined and wined with him. Some betrayed him for reasons best known to them. Some were with him, yet they were also in another camp.

During the 2019 election, he warned us, yet we didn’t listen. Here we are today in the same spot he left us almost 12 months ago.

The surprising aspect of it is that things are retrogressing. We are not where we ought to be. When we complain, they will say we should be patient.

We complained about the condition of our roads last year, they said we should wait for the rain to subside. The rain subsided and returned again; but nothing to show for it.

Now, we have been hearing excuses. Coronavirus has stopped us from having 236 primary health centres rehabilitated.

All promises have been left unfulfilled. Our IGR is diminishing at an alarming rate. We can no longer sleep with our two eyes closed. The rate of insecurity is becoming frightening. This was not what happened under the previous administration.

Former Governor Ibikunle Amosun created a polytechnic in Ipokia, but the place is now covered with bush.

Sen. Amosun, we just realised how prepared you were for governance. You didn’t become governor by accident.

You had your plans well spelt out, maybe that was because you were not a drop out. You brought your wealth of experience as an FCA to bear in the way you governed Ogun. From less than N1billion monthly revenue, Ogun became a state generating about N7billion in a month. Unfortunately, the IGR is now reducing.

Former Governor Amosun, we offended you. We called you names. We saw what you were doing, but we chose to look the other side as if we were blind. Today, we’ve seen that the difference is clear.

You said it then. You said many people who were not competent were eyeing the Ogun governorship seat. But we thought you were only being politically sentimental.

Sir, we can now see why it is very important to have a governor who has the local knowledge of Ogun State. It is not important the person has a private jet. We don’t need a governor who flies in and out at will. We only need someone who understands this terrain called Ogun State.

You wanted the best for us, but we didn’t understand it. It’s now dawn on us that we have missed something big.

Ibikunle, Ajiri omo Oye, Omo Olowu oduru, Omo ajifepe sere! For all we have done against you; for all the lies we have peddled against you, please forgive us. We are deeply sorry. Please find a space in your heart to forgive us. Don’t leave us alone in Ogun State.

Sir, always give your fatherly advice to the present administration, even if they won’t make use of the advice.

I know you have a large heart. You easily forgive and that’s why many people think they can easily pretend to be your friend and later betray you. We are sorry for our mistakes. Please forgive and forget.

On behalf of all of us who have offended you, I want to tender unresolved apology. Please let go of our shortcomings. It shall be well with you in Jesus name.

Adeyemi Joel Oduwaye, Ijebu-Ode.
