The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the list of candidates for the governorship election in Anambra State on Thursday.
In November, the election will take place. The All Progressives Grand Alliance’s candidate, Chukwuma Soludo, was replaced by Michael Umeoji by INEC (APC).
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was left from the list of candidates who had been cleared.
Mr. Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner of the INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, made a comment on the development.
According to him, the commission’s timetable, which was authorized on January 18, 2021, allows for the withdrawal or substitution of candidates in accordance with Section 35 of the Electoral Act 2010. (as amended).
According to the spokesman, eleven of the eighteen political parties had substituted seven governorship and eleven deputy governorship candidates before the deadline of July 30, 2021.
He acknowledged that the commission had been served with the decision of the Court of Appeal (Kano Division), which overturned the High Court of Jigawa State’s decision on APGA’s leadership and election nominations.
“The final list of candidates will be published on October 7 2021 as provided in the timetable and schedule of activities for the election”, the statement read.
