ANAMBRA: THE CYNOSURE FOR SPORT & YOUTH DEVELOPMENT: In the words of Late African Statesman and former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela, “sports can create hope where once there was despair. It is more powerful than governments in breaking down racial barriers. It laughs in the face of all types of discrimination.”
It is often said that sports has an inherent ability to bring people together, in particular the youth but the tremendous potential in sports to achieve youth development has been little utilized in Anambra state.
By its nature, sports encourages participation, bridging the gap in national, ethnic and religious divides and also plays vital roles in economic emancipation of the people.
It is for this reason that Dr Godwin Maduka tends to make sports cum youth development one of his frontline policy.
Indeed, by investing in sports development he will be making Anambra a sports hub not only in Nigeria but in Africa and beyond.
This he tends to achieve through the re-introduction of sports in our primary, secondary and post secondary schools in Anambra state.
In the past, Anambrarians won different national and international laurels in sports and also represented the country in different global sports fiesta. The likes of Emmanuel Okalla, John Mikel Obi, Emmanuel Emenike and Amobi Okoye of American football have made their marks in their chosen field.
Sadly, because of the successive governments neglect to sport development in Anambra state, the state has continued to witness retrogressive growth in sports.
Come 2021, Dr Maduka will certainly be the best choice for the teeming Anambra youths especially those who have the intent of escaping poverty through sports.
It behooves on all Anambra people who appreciates sports and youth development to join hands and support this great son whose intent to occupy the seat of power in Anambra state is to create hope where once there was despair.
