On Tuesday, a businessman, Adamu Garba, took to social media to post a video of him where he stated he has instituted a $1 billion suit against the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Founder of Twitter International Company, Jack Dorsey.

This he did at the Federal High Court, Abuja, over alleged sponsorship of the ongoing #EndSARS Protest across the country.

This comes after a series of tweets addressed to Jack, criticising him on his support for youths over their demand that the federal government should end police brutality, Guardian reports.

This act by Garba has led to different reactions on social media, most questioning his decisions and others requesting Twitter to pull down his account. Below are some:

Here’s your motion of notice, a fine of $1Bn dollars in favour of Federal Republic of Nigeria, as a compensation for lost of lives, properties & convenience as a result your active support for funding of #EndSARS after the issues is been attended to by the Government.” Adamu Garba tweeted.

Garba accused Jack Dorsey and Twitter International Company of “sponsoring” the #EndSARS protests in Nigeria.

He also asked the court to give “an order directing the 7th Respondent to stop the operation of Twitter Intl Company in any part of the territory of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“AN ORDER directing the 8th and 9th respondents jointly to pay the applicant the sum of USD 1 Billion as damages.”

On October 14, Dorsey tweeted #EndSARS and a link to a Tech Cabal’s article detailing how rogue policemen clamped on Nigeria’s tech community and the website of Feminist Coalition, a group of Nigerian feminists fighting against injustice through peaceful protests, fundraising, and social media organisation.

Dorsey, Twitter and the EndSARS protesters are named as 8th, 9th and `10th respondents in the suit.

Under a clear mark of gross abuse of privilege, you used your platform to instigate a protest that have now turned into breakdown of law and order in Nigeria.

You must publish public apology to Nigerian government and people for violating our sovereignty to peace & security.

You have violated the international principles of nationhood & democracy, by meddling into our local affairs, knowing fully well that these is capable of toppling the democratically elected government of the day, slowing us down from progress on our hard earned democracy journey.

I trust that the The Federal High Court of Nigeria will serve you the motion accordingly.

You should get ready and pay the fine as a compensation once you receive the motion accordingly.

Protests broke out in Nigeria about two weeks ago to demand an end to the activities of the notorious Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian police.

The unit was accused of crimes such as extrajudicial killings, kidnapping, extortion and intimidation.

Although police authorities and President Buhari said that a reform of the police would begin in earnest, protesters said similar promises made in the past were empty chatter.

The unit has since been scrapped and a new Special Weapons and Tactics unit established to replace.

The protests have enjoyed the support of local and international sports stars and celebrities.
