APC Chieftains feared dead in auto crash; party suspends campaign

Tragedy on Tuesday morning as many All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains and supporters in Edo State lost their lives following an auto crash close to Oluku Junction, near Benin on Benin-Lagos Road.

News have it that a trailer ran into the travelling campaign entourage of top chieftains of the APC, which it said led to the loss of lives.

Also, the two security personnel attached to the campaign team of the Edo State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu were feared dead.

Following this tragic report, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo has suspended its campaign.

Its Governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, was billed to campaign on Tuesday at Usen, Ovia Southwest Local Government Area.

But he called it off in honour of the deceased.

Edo APC, through chairman of its Media Campaign Council, Prince John Mayaki, condoled with the families of the victims, stressing they were not alone in their grief.

The party promised to do everything within its powers to ameliorate their grief.

While reaching out to families of the policemen involved in the accident, it assured that it would never forget their supreme sacrifice.

“I wish to send my deepest sympathies to families, friends, and all who knew the two exceptional policemen we lost today in the tragic and disturbing crash involving the convoy of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole travelling with other leaders to a campaign event in Usen, Ovia South East LGA.

“We have since called off all campaign events scheduled for today and joined efforts with Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to ensure the best care for injured persons.

“The circumstances of the crash were indeed curious and have left us deeply concerned, as the truck responsible for the crash, according to witness accounts of those in the convoy and other road users, appeared to have deliberately rammed into the convoy.

“While awaiting the conclusion of the investigation of the police in response to our petition, I urge our party followers across the state to remain calm and alert. May God rest the dead, amen.”
