APC Youth Wing Rejects Imposition Of Presidential Candidate

Ahead of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Primary, the youth wing of the party are protesting against the alleged moves by the Abdullahi Adamu to impose the party’s presidential candidate on the party.

The youth wing says that the Chairman of the party has concluded plans to impose Senate President, Ahmad Lawan on them.

The spokesman of the protesting party youth wing, Alhaji Odele Babatunde Akanni, National Coordinator of BAT Network Vision and APC National Youth Leader candidate, noted that the Adamu endorsed the ambition of Ahmad Lawal, Senate President, as their presidential candidate, which he said would not augur well for the party ahead of the primary.

He explained that while they respect the Adamu’s early decision to endorse primary for the presidential candidates, “his choices over time had further worsened the party’s chances at the primary and polls rather than strengthen it.”

He said that they would rather subject the choice of presidential candidate of the party to a credible delegate election at the scheduled primary, rather than singlehandedly pick Ahmad Lawan as sole presidential candidate of the party.

“Now, we are saying we want a vibrant, credible, intelligent, brilliant, who has credibility and a track record in governance but again our leader (Adamu) has opted for a political lightweight who will lose heavily at the general elections. We would not take it.”

But Adamu who did not deny the allegation of imposition said it is within his right and the President, Muhammadu Buhari to have a preference among the aspirants and that the decision did not foreclose the ambition of others ahead of the primaries.
