As Obaseki finally meets Buhari, many remember Ambode
Obaseki/Buhari/Ambode: Yesterday, after so much drama and persuasion, Governor Godwin Obaseki finally met with President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, to present his form seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Mr Obaseki, who is in a political battle with the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, told the president he has the support of Edo indigenes for his re-election.
The visit to the president comes weeks ahead of the June 22 APC governorship primary.
Mr Obaseki’s main challenger for the APC ticket is Osagie Ize-Iyamu who is believed to have the backing of Mr Oshiomhole, a former Edo governor.
Mr Godwin Obaseki, who briefed State House reporters on the purpose of the visit, said it was essential of him to brief the president on his re-election bid.
The visit to the president comes a day after Mr Obaseki and six other APC governors visited party leader Bola Tinubu to seek his support for Mr Obaseki’s re-election.
Bola Tinubu, an influential leader of the APC, is a key ally of Mr Oshiomhole and stood his neck out for him when Mr Oshiomhole was under pressure to be removed as APC chairman.
With all this said in progressive, political analysts have decided to go down memory lane by dragging the former governor of Lagos State, Akinwumi Ambode into it.
Recall that prerior to his denial by APC members for second term, Ambode also visited President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.
“Former Governor of Lagos state Ambode visited president Muhamadu buhari two days to the party primary and yet lost in The primary. I wonder why You guys are celebrating a mere photograph with the president. Yes Obaseki bought form and decided to visit the president. The Buhari I know doesn’t interfere in party primaries,” one said.
Another added that, “It’s a mere photograph tho. You think if buhari is really interest in obaseki he would show it by snapping with him. He is a sitting governor to some extent he has the right to see the president.”
1. Will President Muhammadu Buhari support Obaseki and sly Oshiomhole?
2. If Obaseki and Ize-Iyamu are left to compete without interferrance, will Obaseki loose?
