Attack on Kaduna-Abuja bound passenger train was Stoning

The Nigeria Police have denied story of an attack on Kaduna-Abuja bound passenger train which went viral on Thursday, 2nd January.

According to the Kaduna Police Command Spokesman, DSP Yakubu Sabo Abubakar while speaking to a media house on Thursday, the command was not informed of any attack of such.

Also supporting this motion is President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, who also denied the report, saying it is 100 per cent fake.

He tweeted, “Dear @vanguardngrnews, kindly, especially for such very sensitive stories, investigate intensively and rigorously. You are a national newspaper with millions of readers, defend your reputation.”

“Reached out to the management of Abuja-Kaduna Train Service, this news is 100% fake.”

However, a staff of the Nigeria Railway Corporation in Kaduna who pleaded anonymity said the train was stoned by under-aged bystanders close to villages where there are substations who mostly hang around to have a look at the train.

Also, a passenger on the train confirmed the stoning to Solacebase, noting that the train was close to Jere junction when they heard the bang on the window.

He denied attack by gunmen on the train that departed Rigassa train station at around 10.30 am on Thursday, noting that on many occasions the corporation has changed window glasses of the train as a result of stoning by underage bystanders in villages or rail crossing.

‘’We have been warning underaged children in most of these areas to desist from throwing pebbles at train whenever they come out to have a view of a passing train.’’

The situation was what some people termed to be attacked by gunmen, which the corporation is trying to sensitize the youth to desist from,” said the staff.

Vanguard newspaper had earlier report attack on Kaduna Abuja bound train on Thursday by gunmen.

While Punch quoted a source saying, “Coach SP 12 attached to the train from Kaduna was shattered by gunshots.”

“There was panic everywhere among the passengers. It was something that nobody could explain at the moment but we are trusting in God that something be done by security operatives to curtail this unfortunate incident,” the source who was also a passenger concluded.
