Baba Maigiwa reportedly killed by Boko Haram after Abduction

Abducted king hunter in Borno State, Abdulkareem Umar aka Baba Maigiwa, has been reportedly killed by Boko Haram after abduction.

Baba Maigiwa was abducted in July 2020 and held hostage after a failed negotiation.

He was reportedly killed on Thursday, 27th August by the Bokoharam factional commander, alongside three other headhunters that accompanied him to the Boko Haram’s enclave for the deal

Maigiwa fought terror war and supported the Nigerian Army troops. A hero, he has been tagged.

He led thousands of local hunters to support military’s fight against Boko Haram and was reported to have set out on a mission to Sambisa forest to persuade Boko Haram insurgents to lay down arms and accept federal government’s amnesty deal. But it turned out the insurgents who assured him of their readiness to lay down their arms, deceived him.

“Modu Sulum had promised to lay down his arms along with hundreds of his fighters and accept meaningful reintegration.

“Some of the demands by the insurgent’s leader was that the government should give immunity to him and his members to return into the society and leave peacefully, provide them with houses and other basic livelihood support, which the leader of the hunter promised to facilitate.”

A LEADERSHIP source added that Mr Baba-Maigiwa and his colleagues were slaughtered on the 27th of July, 2020.

The source who normally speaks on matters like this under strict anonymity, explained that “there was no way they could have spared them because they were combatants.”

Note that it is part of the Boko Haram and ISWAP creed not to spare any combatant person who had picked up arms against them. The hunters had openly mobilised to fight Boko Haram, as such the insurgent now tag them as their enemy.

The family of Baba Maigiwa had no knowledge about this development as at the time of filing this report.

According to a source who called to ask the family for an update on his continued disappearance, the family said they are still praying for God’s intervention.

Eulogising, Deji Adesogan tweeted, “#RIP Fallen Hero.”
