Bandits in Zamfara State have attacked a police station in Magami community in Gusau, Zamfara capital, seizing the phones of police officers on duty.

Magami is one of the conflict-ravaged communities in Zamfara State. Several residents have fled the community as a result of incessant attacks by terrorists.

According to Abdul Balarabe, a local journalist who reports terror attacks in the state, the gunmen arrived in the community around 3:40 pm.

He said after collecting the phones, the terrorists shot into the air before they went back into the bush.

“Bandits attack Magami Divisional police station under Gusau LGA of Zamfara State, snatch phones and other valuables belonging to the police on duty, they also fired warning shots and escaped. The incident happened today around 3:40pm,” Balarabe said in a tweet.

Also on Tuesday, some terrorists attacked the Funtua-Gusau highway in the state.

Narrating the attack, Balarabe said a commuter was shot twice in the leg when the driver of the vehicle he was travelling in refused to stop after being ordered to by gunmen.

“Around 1pm today (Tuesday), the terrorists came out in large numbers and blocked the road. The person shot was in a vehicle that refused to stop,” he said.

He said when soldiers arrived at the scene and cleared the road, the terrorists escaped through a bush path and blocked Wanzamai to Yankara for over 30 minutes.

Daily Trust reports that there has been an upsurge of terrorist attacks along the Funtua-Gusau highway, the major highway linking Zamfara with neighbouring Katsina State.

When contacted, SP Muhammed Shehu, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Zamfara denied the report, saying, “No such thing happened.”
