Barca Introduce Wearing Of Ring To Players

As part of strategy to improve the physical state of players in Barca, the club’s medical staff, head coach Xavi Hernandez developed a new training routine to avoid injuries.

The players’ physical state is monitored intensively. The players wear a special Oura ring that monitors their sleep and the amount of time they spend on having rest.

Studies (PDF) have shown the Oura Ring’s measurements of heart rate and HRV to be 99.9% and 98.4% accurate, respectively, in comparison with an electrocardiogram. Those extra data points give the Oura Ring’s analyses more nuance compared with what most sleep trackers offer

While on the pitch, the GPS trackers collect all the data about the players’ physical condition, speed and distance covered.

The Spanish club pay particular attention to the increasing risk of injuries. Injury reports are compiled every week; also, Xavi has decided to react to any kind of discomfort during matches with a sub.

Discipline has never been so important. The players shall arrive at the training base 90 munutes before a session starts. If they arrive later, they get fined.

Each player has his own diet plan. At the same time, the players are required to eat together after training sessions.

Barcelona’s injury list was completely empty before several Barca players picked up injuries on international duty.

The players who picked up injury where out of Xavi and Barca’s instructions.
