FOLLOWING attacks in some parts of Ebonyi State by suspected Fulani herdsmen, the State Governor, David Umahi, has asked herders planning to come to the state not to do so at the moment.
Umahi said the tension caused by the attacks in the state were yet to ebb.
The governor, who noted that Fulani herdsmen were killing defenceless Ebonyi people, added that herders were leaving the state overnight because they were privy to attacks in the state.
The governor stated this after an expanded security meeting with security chiefs and stakeholders at Old Government House, Abakaliki, on Tuesday.
Umahi said, “On the issue of herdsmen, we want to place it on record that no herdsman is in Ebonyi State for now. We didn’t ask them to leave; they left on their own, meaning that they were privy to the attacks in Ebonyi State.
“For their safety, they should, please, not return back now; there is still very high tension in the state. People pretentiously speak that they are protecting Ebonyi people; but you can see that our problem is not herdsmen.
“We are still killing ourselves; we are still killing policemen, we are burning police stations, which means that the South-East should know that our problem is not just herdsmen.”
