Bill to establish and enforce measures to prevent and stop the spread of Coronavirus and other Dangerous Infectious Diseases.

Drastic times call for drastic measures.

Today, we reconvened in an emergency plenary to pass a bill into law. It was a bill that seeked to establish and enforce measures to prevent and stop the spread of Corona Virus and other Dangerous Infectious Diseases.

Due to the urgency of the bill, it received accelerated hearing, as it passed the first, second, third reading, and eventually passed into law.

There is no gainsaying that this bill passed into law is timely and apt. In addition to establishing and ensuring preventive measures for diseases, the bill will as well ensure provision of appropriate healthcare, welfare and curative measures and to provide for connected matters.

The legislative arm of Government will continue to liaise and work in tandem with other organs of Government in the State, in ensuring that the wellbeing and safety of ndi Anambra remain top priority.

In the other business of the day, the 21 Local Government Transition Chairmen were duly confirmed and returned.

They were, however, encouraged to take a cue from the Governor and the Lawmakers, by reaching out to their people at the Local Government level and contributing their own quota in cushioning the effects of the COVID19 pandemic.
