BIOGRAPHY OF HON. ABDULSOBUR OLAYIWOLA OLAWALE aka OMITITI

Hon. Alhaji Chief Abdul-Sobur Olayiwola Adisa Olawale aka Omititi who represented Mushin 11 constituency in the Lagos State legislative Assembly from 2015 till November 15, 2022 was born on March 12, 1964 in Siki’s compound , Ijemo, Abeokuta. His parents were Late Pa Abdul-Lateef Olawale Sodalubi and Late Madam Suwebat Akanke Sodalubi.

 

He had his elementary education at St Peter’s Anglican school Ake, Abeokuta between 1971-1976. For his secondary education, he attended Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School Obantoko Abeokuta between 1976-1981.

 

Few months after completing his secondary education his two parents sadly passed in quick succession of few months intervals. Despite being an orphan he was never deterred from seeking future value addition. He was undaunted and dared life challenges. His determination to have higher education made him to approach one Late Chief F. A. Jolaoso ( renowned land surveyor and an entrepreneur in Abeokuta). The Chief engaged him as a clerk in his Fajol hotel at Obantoko Abeokuta. With the little savings he made and assistance from his uncle , Pa Sulaiman Akanni Oyegunle aka Baba Teacher, he applied and got admitted into the Ogun State College of Education, OSCE ( Now known as Tai Solarin College of Education-TASCE), Ijebu-Ode in 1982. He began teaching job with Ogun State teaching service Commission in 1986 at Ajebo Community High School Ajebo. His Principal then was Mr Bodunrin who had earlier taught him literature-in- english at Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School.

 

Thirsty for more knowledge and life value addition, he enrolled for a degree course in Business Administration at the University of Lagos and graduated with Bachelor of science (B.Sc.) Hons degree. He also attended the Lagos State University ( LASU) for a post graduate degree in Public Administration ( MPA).

 

Not satisfied with his engagement as a teacher, Olayiwola took an unusual but bold decision to resign from the Ogun state teaching service Commission in the early 1990s. He did this even when he had no job offer anywhere. He defied all persuasions, packed his belongings and headed for Lagos. Only him saw what others didn’t see. He arrived Lagos and went to the house of another uncle of his, Late Alhaji Salisu Ayinde Balogun, who gave him a room to live in. As man of honour and integrity, he never wanted to depend on anyone, thus he enrolled to learn and began the trade of plank, sand and granite merchandising. He later metamorphosed to being a property developer and later, a hotelier.

 

Along the line, he met the love of his life Shakirat Abosede and they got married in January 1996. Their marriage is blessed with four beautiful and successful children namely; Basirat, Zainab, Aminat and Abdul Azeez. They lived happily till his last minute on earth.

 

At the birth of democracy in 1999, Omititi joined the political party of alliance for democracy. He humbled himself and had political tutelage. He subsequently served as Special Adviser on transportation to Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Lagos State from 1999-2003. He was diligent, loyal and committed to his political leadership and ambition. In 2015, the people of Mushin constituency 11 in recognition of his commitment and selfless service to his community overwhelmingly voted him as their representative legislator in the Lagos State House of Assembly. He was serving his second term in office before his transition. While in active legislative service, he sponsored and supported a number of bills in the house, he made quality contributions to debate on topical issues. He was the chairman of the house committee on local government and administration affairs. He performed a lot of oversight functions that were reckoning. He established and funded a number of empowerment programmes for his constituents, did a lot of philanthropic gestures such as free bus ride for school children, monthly allowance for the aged (owo arugbo), free Jamb coaching, free computer training for the youths, vocational training and many others too numerous to mention.

 

Olayiwola served his party and his constituency with his resources and to the best of his ability. His selfless service and development of humanity earned him many titles of responsibilities including:

  1. President ( Global) Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School Obantoko Abeokuta Old Students Association;

2.Seriki-Bobagunwa of Egba land;

  1. Arigbabuwo of Egba Muslims.

  2. Aare Adinni of Ijemo

 

Olayiwola loved football and he enjoyed social life. Anytime he had the chance to play on the field, he either kept the goal post or being a lefty, played forward outside left. He was jovial and optimistic. He had a gift of administrative acumen.

He belonged to a number of social clubs including:

i. Abeokuta Sports Club;

ii. Abeokuta Club

iii. Zodiac Club Abeokuta;

iv. Primus Club Mushin;

v. AP Base Mushin;

vi. Leadership Club Mushin;

vii. Rotary Club.

 

Alhaji AbdulSobur belonged to several Islamic organisations in Abeokuta, his birth place and Mushin, his political place.

 

Omiti touched many lives positively and that is why it is still challenging to accept the reality of his transition to eternity.
