Biology Teacher, Handed Sa’heed, shot dead in Lagos

A member of staff of the Army Children Senior High School in Epe, Lagos, Handed Sa’heed, has been shot dead in Lagos.

 

The deceased popularly called ‘World Morgan, was the school’s Biology teacher and Registra.

 

He was reportedly shot dead at about 7.10pm, last Friday, in his shop in Poka, Epe area of Lagos.

The Muslim Teachers Association of Nigeria, MUTAN Epe, which condemned the murder of Sa’heed, called on the Lagos State Government and the Lagos State Police Command to unearth the circumstance surrounding the death and bring the culprits to book.

 

Describing late Sa’heed as a hard-working teacher, the association in a statement issued this night, said his murder ”is signalling that the teaching profession is unsafe and being rubbished, as noble teachers have now become endangered species in the state”.



The statement reads: “The late Hameed Sa’heed was reportedly shot several times and stabbed by alleged unknown boys/youths.

 

“Following this development, MUTAN EPE calls on the police and other relevant security agencies to ensure that the culprits are apprehended through a careful and speedy investigation and all brought to justice.

 

“The Lagos State Government should also put necessary and drastic measures in place to avert reoccurrence of this kind as schools are preparing for inter-house sports and first term examinations. Teaching profession is a noble one that must be respected at all times.

 

“As we sympathize with his loved ones, we equally pray to Allah to grant everyone the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss”.

 

Also, Two traditional rulers and a lawmaker in Epe Division of Lagos State have condemned recent killings of a school teacher and a student in the area.

 

Razak Bakare, a student of Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED), Epe was shot dead on campus last Wednesday, while Ahmed Saheed, a teacher in Poka, also in Epe area, was killed on Friday.

 

Speaking with NAN on the killing of the MOCPED student, Oba Babatunde Ogunlaja, the Aladeshoyin of Odo-Noforija, expressed dismay over the killing of the student on campus.

 

Ogunlaja said such occurrence was a condemnable and called on the institution’s authority to install CCTV cameras on the school premises.

 

The Oba said he has been working tirelessly with security agencies, vigilantes and other relevant stakeholders to fish out the perpetrators since the incident happened in the community.



He called on Lagos State Government to rebuild a collapsed fence in the institution which served as escape route for criminals.

 

Also, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom in Epe, lamented the killing of the teacher in Poka area of Epe on Friday.

 

He pledged that the traditional institution would support all efforts by security agencies to fish out the killers.

 

Mr Abiodun Tobun, representing Epe Constituency 1 in Lagos State House of Assembly, decried the recent killings in the area.

 

He said that the institution was known for peace since its establishment until the recent ugly incident.

 

“I totally condemn such act and I know the management of the institution will take adequate measure to prevent a repeat of such incident,” he said.

 

The lawmaker urged students to face their studies, be ambassadors of peace and agents of development and not agents of killing and destruction.

 

“Know the type of friends you keep in school, do not join cultism, rather join reading/study groups and be a religious,” he said.

 

Tobun said that he would work closely with traditional rulers and other relevant stakeholders in the fight against cultism, hooliganism, hoodlums and other social vices in the area.

 

TWIST: How Mr Handed Sa’heed Died

Mr. Ahmed Saheed was allegedly shot dead by one of his students.

 

Saheed, who was in his 40s was gunned down at his shop in Poka area of Epe, where he was selling home appliances.



A teacher, resident in Epe, who spoke on condition of anonymity told this writer that, Saheed also known as World Morgan among friends, was in the shop when the yet-to-be identified student and another came on a motorcycle and shot him dead.

 

According to the source, Saheed had once punished the student, who is said to be a member of Aiye confraternity.

 

After serving the punishment, the student allegedly vowed to deal with his teacher, who is also believed to be a cult member when he was a student.

 

The source said, “I know the deceased teacher very well. The teacher happened to be Eiye those days in school. This info doesn’t reflect in the claim from the media so far. The student happen to be Aiye. No body is ready to open up that the teacher belonged. What filled the media is the claim that the teacher punished the boy and had promised to deal with the teacher ever since.”

Ahmed Saheed was buried on Saturday, November 2021.

Saheed, who is said to be the only child of his mother was buried on Saturday, November 20, 2021.

 

The deceased was survived by his parents, wife and two kids.
