Black Panther: Wakanda Forever opens box office with $330 million+

Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever began is global rollout last Friday, and quickly established its box office dominance with a $330 million+ opening weekend.

This result gave Ryan Coogler’s powerful film the second-highest opening of the year behind fellow MCU sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and saw it unseat 2013’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire for the biggest November debut of all time.

In addition, the movie’s domestic takings have already eclipsed the $151M+ Black Adam has amassed after just over three weeks in theaters, and is quite close to surpassing the DC Comics adventure’s $351 million worldwide total.

As it often the case, this has ignited a bit of a “flame war” on social media, but Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson wants no part in any negativity, and has offered his congratulations to Marvel and the Black Panther 2 team for the movie’s success.

During an interview with iHeartRadio, Johnson made it very clear that he doesn’t view both studios as being locked in some kind of rivalry.

“I’ve been asked that question a lot. When I talk about this is the new era in the DC Universe with Black Adam, are we going after Marvel? Is that what I mean by that? The answer is no. We’re not going to do that and there is no ‘war’ between DC and between MCU. That’s my opinion.”

This sentiment has been echoed by Kevin Feige and others in the past, but rivalry or no, it’s difficult to imagine Johnson and Warner Bros. Discovery not being just a little disappointed with Black Adam’s BO performance.
