A bridge connecting Imo and Abia collapsed on Thursday.
It was reported that travellers and motorists going and coming from Owerri to Mbaise and Umuahia were stranded following the abrupt collapse of the bridge.
The bridge is situated at the Okitankwo River in Emekukwu in Owerri North Local Government Area of the state.
Eyewitnesses said the bridge, which is under construction along the Owerri-Umuahia road collapsed due to the heavy downpour in the city.
A stranded traveller who identified herself as Nkechi told newsmen that a bus with many passengers was narrowly spared from being submerged in the flood.
According to her, passengers had to disembark to continue their journey.
