Charly Boy: Nigeria is more divided due to absence of a President

One of Nigeria’s most controversial entertainers, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, also known as Charly Boy, has explained why various groups are calling for secession.

The “Area Father”, who is best known for his alternative lifestyle, political views, and media productions disclosed that Nigeria ‘does not have a president’.

On Tuesday, he spoke with POLITICS NIGERIA on the agitations for a Yoruba Nation and Biafra.

PN: What do you think about the unity of Nigeria and the current situation we find ourselves in as a nation?

Charly Boy: I will continue to talk and participate actively in activism. After 45 years of active demonstrations for justice, I can’t sleep nor retire because my house is burning. I will do what I am known for. To fight for justice like my father had advised.

PN: Some people have argued that President Muhammadu Buhari led government is not doing enough in the aspect of unifying Nigerians. What is your view about this?

Charly Boy: “We don’t have a president.”

PN: You mean President Buhari is not our president?

Charly Boy: “This is not our idea of what a president should be. So, we don’t have a president.”

PN: Many are agitating that Nigeria should split. While some are calling for Biafra nation, some are demanding Yoruba/Oduduwa nation. Are we not at the cross road already?

Charly Boy: “This has been systematic for a long time. Our mumu never do. We need to come together with people who want to talk. We need to first unite the south and the middle bet first. We need people who are logical to come together to demand a better Nigeria together. The discussion continues.”

“Injustice is injustice everywhere. It is a connection with Yoruba nation, Biafra and everybody agitating. The things that unite us are more than things that divide us. It is the selected few in power that are causing all the problems.”

PN: Do you believe in the Biafra movement?

Charly boy: “I believe there is injustice everywhere and that needs to be addressed… Whether it is Biafra, Oduduwa or affecting any group of people. The most people affected are the  youths. This is not a country where you say the youths are the future leaders. The youths belong to all of the groups agitating. So, I am for the youths.”

PN: In a nutshell, you are advising that Nigerians should vote for youths in 2023

Charly boy: “If you like be voting for your ancestors and this is what you will get.”
