It was a cream De La cream in attendance at the women conference center in Umuahia last Wednesday as Dr. Chikezie Charles Ikonne the first son of the immediate past Chancellor of the Abia state University (ABSU) Uturu, Prof. Uche Ikonne, exchanged marital vows with his Heartthrob, Dr. Mrs. Winnie Ikonne Chioma, daughter of Hon. Justice I A Nwabughogu of the Abia State Judiciary at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia.
The event which was chaired by the Senator representing Abia South, Chief Enyinnaya Abaribe was attended by a creme of Abians including Senator T. A Orji, State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Onuoha Ogwe, President of the State Customary Court of Appeal, Hon Justice Okey Nwamuo, Members of the National and State Assemblies, Judges, Magistrates of the State Judiciary, Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prof ACB Agbazuere, PDP State Chairman, Rt. Hon. Asiforo Okere, the Head of Service, Sir Onyii Wamah, members of the State Executive Council, Local Government Chairmen, leaders of thought among other dignitaries while the couple were joined in matrimony at the Anglican Communion, Church of Good Shepherd, Ehimiri, Umuahia at a service presided over by the Immediate Past Archbishop of the Aba Ecclesiastical Province of the Anglican Church, Most Rev Dr. Ugochukwu Uwaoma Ezuoke.
Other dignitaries are the members representing Isiala Ngwa North/ South, Representatives, Hon. Darlington Nwokocha and Hon. Uko Nkole, the member representing Isiala Ngwa North in State Assembly, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, the member representing Umuahia south in the State Assembly, Hon. Jerry Uzosike, Chief Eric Opah, the executive chairman of Isiala Ngwa North, Hon. Chinwendu Ochulor, Chief Ncheta Omerekpe, Sir Chinonso Ogbunamiri, Chief Okey Ahiwe, Sir Chinanu Ogbunamiri, Dr. Ogbonna Ehiemere, Dr. Bob Ogu, Prof. Ogbonna, the C.E.O of Exact Media; Hon. Emma Eguzikpe, the DG Abia Hotels, Barr. Randy Ukanwoko, traditional rulers, business moguls, captains of industry, the academic and Members of Nsulu vanguard led by Some and Mrs Chinedum Ugoala and Mr. Ugochukwu Odu.
In his message at the event, the Arch. Bishop of Church of Good Shepherd Umuahia, Arch. Bishop U U Ezuoke charged the new couple to be patient with each other, also warning against intruders. He urged them to council each other on all issues to enable peace and understanding reign supreme in their union.
The married couple were charged by Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu during the wedding reception to be committed in their relationships and ensure they submit to one another to achieve a prosperous marriage.
The Governor advised them to follow the peaceful and prosperous marriages of their parents as a template for a successful marriage. He said that the storms and challenges that confront marriages are to strengthen them and expressed hope that the couple would weather the storm to make a successful marriage.
Governor Ikpeazu, who described the marriage as a special one involving two medical Doctors brought up in the fear of the Lord by two illustrious families also urged them to see each other as brother and sister while praying for open doors for them.
In their responses, the parents of the bride and groom Prof. and Mrs. E.U Ikonne and Hon. Justice And Lady Innocent Nwabughogu expressed gratitude to God for a moment like this and prayed God to bless and sustain their marriage.
