Congo: “My school destroyed, my home abandoned, I was filled with fear and uncertainty”, Ban Ki-moon reflects on Childhood.

United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, reflects childhood, on trip to refugee camp in Goma at the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

After meeting with children living in camp, who like him, know the pain of displacement, the loss caused by war, and the fear of not knowing when their next meal would come.
Ki-moon says “As a boy I grew up in war. I was six years old when I was forced to flee my home and village in Korea with only what I could carry in my arms. My school destroyed, my home abandoned, I was filled with fear and uncertainty.”
He therefore called the first-ever World Humanitarian Summit—a call to world leaders and change-makers of today “to come together to reaffirm our commitment to humanity, to restore trust in our global order and show those millions left behind in conflicts, in chronic need and in constant fear, the solidarity they deserve and expect from us.”
A total estimate of people who need humanitarian assistance to survive is 125 million.
The topic for this movement is “The Agenda for Humanity.” This will be his chance to hear stories from individuals and communities affected by conflict, war, and disaster.
Ki-moon has already visited Ethiopia, Burundi, DRC, South Sudan, Burkina Faso, Mauritania and Algeria. Next he will visit Jordan, Lebanon, and Tunisia to speak with those who have been forced to flee their homes, leaving behind everything they own, because of the war in Syria.
I am a Messengers of Humanity.
