COVID-19: Barr Ofomah says Governors should intensify testing effort

COVID-19: Barr Ofomah says Governors should intensify testing effort – – The South-East Spokesperson of the African Democratic Party (ADC), Barr. C.K.C Ofomah, has called on Nigerian governors to intensify their efforts in COVID-19 testing in their states, saying there are serious lapses in their ways of handling.

Barr. C.K.C Ofomah is admonishing that they apply the rules put in place by the Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC), adding that there is need to enforce the isolation and quarantine regulations as this would help to achieve the desired result.

The spokesperson observed that, by allowing some persons who may have been exposed to continue moving around will not only undermine the containment of the contagion but will expose the people of the region as happened in Kano and Lagos.

“This is the more reason the governors should, as a matter of urgency, embark on mass testing of persons in the South-East,” he said.

“The governors cannot afford to keep quiet in the face of this life threatening situation. They should be proactive. They should not wait for cases to be reported.”

Barr Ofomah also mentioned that there is need to collaborate with Prof. Maurice Mmaduakolam Iwu and Reverend Father Raymond Arazu who have discovered medication to help in fighting the pandemic, just like Madagascar used their experts.

He further enjoined the governors to take advantage of buildings donated as quarantine centers by the Catholic church and urged them to partner with businesses within the region for the manufacturing of PPE and ventilators.

He singled out Innoson Manufacturing Company Ltd as capable of making ventilators for Nigeria and the African continent.

“Human life cannot be politicised. Governors should not play politics with a pandemic that has ravaged nations,” Barr Ofomah said to the Governors on COVID-19.

Moreso, the South-East Chairman of ADC, Barrister Ignatius Nlem, has reached out to governors and assured them of the readiness of the party to collaborate with them to ensure that the region emerges from the contagion and lockdown stronger.
