DCP Olatunji Disu (IRT Boss): He Whom the Cap Fits

That Olatunji Disu, a Deputy Commissioner of Police is a consummate cop is not in doubt. Disu, who is the commander of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS), has over the years shown discipline, integrity and leadership, three traits he has never deviated from.

 

At RRS, Disu has no doubt displayed exceptional leadership capabilities by running a tight ship, the result being that his personnel stands out, especially in their ability to respond swiftly to crime. To achieve this, he wth the help of successive governments through the Security Trust Fund, has taken policing beyond the traditional conventional means of crime detection and prevention.

 

With this, the squad has been living up to expectations having leveraged on new technologies, like drone surveillance phones and tracking.

Recently, Disu earned another stripes; that of a deputy commissioner of police and if going by the wide commendations he received when the news broke, it was a promotion well deserved. Days later, he was officially decorated with his new rank by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, in the presence of his boss, Lagos CP, Zubairu Muazu.

 

 

Born in in Lagos Island; He had his post-primary education at Mayflower Junior School, Ikenne, Ogun State; attended Pobuna Secondary Grammar School, Epe; and Saint Gregory’s College, Lagos. He also obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English (Education) at the Lagos State University; post-Graduate Diploma in International Relations and Strategic Studies, also at Lagos State University; a certificate in Personal Protection in the United Kingdom; and has a Master in Public Administration at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Ondo State.

 

He joined the Nigerian Police in 1992 as Cadet ASP and was trained at the Nigeria Police Academy, Kaduna. He has served as DPO in various divisions and states, just as he was once an ADC to the then Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Afterwards, he was posted to Ogun State Police Command as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in-charge of Ago-Iwoye.

 

From there, he was deployed to Sudan where he led the Nigeria Police contingent on African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) to quell the crisis in the war-torn Darfur in 2005. Upon return to Nigeria, he was the Officer in-charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ondo State Police Command Headquarters and subsequently, Officer in-charge of the SARS, Oyo and Rivers States Police Command Headquarters.

 

 

Soon afterwards, he was elevated to a new rank as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and he was at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Rivers State Police Command before his transfer to Lagos State Command and subsequent deployment as the commander in-charge of RRS.

 

Upon his assumption of office at RRS, Disu has demonstrated competence which has translated in bursting of several cases, not limited to kidnaping, armed robbery and fraud.
