Some hoodlums attacked and ransacked a police station at at Orogun community, Ughelli North L.G.A in Delta state, on Sunday.

An officer who was present during the invasion was beaten to to coma, while the hoodlums carted away with AK-47 rifle and 30 rounds of ammunition.

There have been anxiety since then at Orogun community, as to recorver, the police have thence commenced a house-to-house search in the community for weapons stolen by the hoodlums.

Trouble began when the police had earlier attempted to arrest a suspect whose mother perfected his escape.

The mother was later arrested and detained in the station.

But then her other children mobilised men to the station threatening to deal with the officers.

A police source said: “The constable and inspector had gone to arrest a suspect but the suspect’s mother locked up her son who later escaped arrest.

“The mother was arrested and taken to the police station. The other children mobilised to the station and threatened to deal with the police for arrest their mother.”

Continuing, the source said: “In the night, the constable was alone in the station sleeping after the inspector and criminal record officer had gone home when the hoodlums pounced and carted away his weapon after beating him to stupor”.
