“Don’t Disappoint”, Lagosians urge Bankole Wellington as he wins PDP Primary for House of Representatives

Nigerian singer Bankole Wellington popularly known as Banky W has won the house of representatives primaries for the Eti-Osa Federal constituency under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

This will be his second attempt at winning a seat in the green chambers of the National Assembly.

Lagosians have raised concerns about his ability to perform.

At the party’s primary on Monday, Banky W got 28 out of 31 votes cast by delegates.

Reacting to the news, some tweeps shared their hopes and worries for the singer and cited their dissatisfaction with the performance of a Lagos lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, as a basis.

Lola said, “I think one of our greatest fear is for Banky W not to turn into a Desmond Elliot if he gets that seat!”

Joy Ciana tweeted, “I felt bad earlier today when they started spreading the rumour that Banky W lost the PDP Primaries. I’m glad to hear that he won…Now, the hurdle is for him to win against the principalities in Lagos state, APC…and if he wins, I pray we don’t have another Desmond Elliot.”

Chimozuki prayed, “Dear Banky W, when you get there, please don’t become like Desmond Elliot. I take God beg you 🙏🏼”

Popular tweep, Nefertiti said, “Congratulations to Banky W. He just won the PDP Primaries ticket. Banky represents HOPE for the future. Desmond Elliot was a mistake. We need more youths in politics, but sensible youths.”

The music star announced that he’ll be running for the House of Reps seat back in April.

“We must engage with Nigeria where it is, not where we prefer for it to be. In 2019, we planted the seed. In 2023, by the grace of God, and with your support, we will win the seat. The time for just talking is over. It’s time to #TalkAndDo. I hope I can count on you. We move,” he tweeted at that time.

Banky W first announced his decision to run for the house of representatives back in November 2018.

The news was largely received by both fans and industry colleagues.

He however lost the elections to Ibrahim Obanikoro of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Meanwhile, David Adeleke, better known as Davido has congratulated Bankole Wellinghton for winning the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest for the House of Representatives, Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in the 2023 elections.

Davido in a tweet on Tuesday morning, pledged support for Banky W’s ambition, saying the singer and movie star has done his part.

Davido urged other Nigerian youths to step up in political participation to ensure change in governance.

He wrote, “Congrats @BankyW! You have my support! Don’t sit at home and complain, get up and make a change”.
