A senior medical officer, Dr Enobong Akpan was overwhelmingly elected Chairman of National Association Of Government General Medical And Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP), Akwa Ibom Branch over the weekend in Uyo.
In an election held at Doctors Mess Uyo, Dr Akpan emerged ahead of two other opponents and was sworn in subsequently alongside the following:
Dr Bet-ini Bassey – Vice Chairman
Dr Ekerette Alphonsus – Secretary
Dr Imabong Desmond – Assistant Secretary
Dr David Okon – Financial Secretary
Dr Ekpo Samuel – Treasurer And
Dr Akaiso Oboho – Public Relations Officer
In his acceptance speech, Dr Enobong Akpan promised to make challenges facing doctors in the state top priority in his administration.
He admonished all who had contested the elections to join hands with his administration in creating a new dawn for the association.
Dr Enobong Akpan emphasized that qualitative health care in all State Government owned Hospitals will be the highlight of his two year tenure.
NAGGMDP an affiliate of NMA, is an umbrella body the caters only for the welfare of Doctors in state government employ.
Dr Enobong Akpan was secretary of the association until his election as Chairman. Happily married, Dr Akpan an Elder of the Apostolic Church succeeds Sir (Dr) Anthony Umana of General Hospital, Ukpom, Abak LGA who had held the position since 2018.
