Afrobeats superstar, Adedamola Adefolahan popularly known as Fireboy DML, has disclosed that his father forced him to sign an undertaking before he was allowed to leave school and move to Lagos.
In an interview with Zeze Millz, he spoke about how he got his start in music as a studio errand boy. As a “studio rat,” Fireboy claimed he was spending more time in the studio, which was affecting his academic performance.
He revealed that after some time, the industry leaders realized he could write, so that was how he became a songwriter for artistes.
The 2022 BET Best International Act Nominee stated that he eventually informed his father that he wanted to drop out of school in his final year and relocate to Lagos where he eventually got signed to YBNL Nation.
According to him, it was surprising but his father did not object, rather he made him sign an undertaking to always obey him, and if he does not succeed in his music career after two years, he would do whatever is asked of him.
However, Fireboy took up the challenge, he believed in his talent which eventually paid off nicely as he has grown to become a global music superstar.
