Deputy Governor of Edo State Comrade Philip Shaibu has described Governor Godwin Obaseki as a veteran in development, adding that the State Governor has restored all the time honoured values to leadership and administration.
“He doesn’t play pranks with public interest. With Obaseki as the Governor, Edo State has witnessed radical departure from the mundane system of development in his efforts to restore the state to time honoured values of honesty, decency, generosity, modesty, selflessness, transparency and Accountability.
“In today’s politics where everyone is compromising, selling their principles and integrity for a price, Governor Godwin Obaseki has remained steadfast with his promises to the people of Edo State.
He has elevated governance by ensuring that every part of the State is equally impacted unlike the previous administration of Adams Oshiomhole where Edo Central was fully and totally abandoned because of his bias against the Edo Central people. But today, Obaseki has integrated development across board,” Comrade Shaibu attested.
The Edo State Deputy Governor who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on media, Mr Benjamin Atu, said: “In previous times, the verdict of the people at the polls usually take away their rights to be served. Transparency and accountability became fancy words in the State’s administration after years of raised and dashed hopes, Governor Godwin Obaseki came to rescue the state from total collapse.
“As a veteran in development, having delivered on his campaign promises to the electorate, the Edo State Governor has lived above board by exceeding expectations and one begins to wonder what else a new governor would do differently that the Obaseki administration is not doing.
“Edo does not need a Governor who seeks political office for vain glory. Obaseki is one of the most decent Nigerians in public life who has never been linked to any allegation of corruption or self enrichment. Such a quintessential and cerebral politician is what Edo deserve as a Governor and not those who have not been able to rise above the base instinct to satisfy individual and group interest at the expense of the corporate progress of the State.
“Before the emergency of Governor Godwin Obaseki, there had been a great gap between government and the governed. This had collapse the bridge of participatory democracy because Politicians were known as promise breakers, who often offered deceitful electoral promises and exhibited a counter productive absent mindedness to current realities.
“The story is no longer the same. Today in the history of Edo State, we can say it boldly that we know of a man that stood tall, forthright, determined, resolute and who refuses to compromise the benefit of the masses for self enrichment appeasing his cronies, unlike the opposition candidate who pocketed the development of the State for personal gains.
“Beyond demanding for a credible election, we must also seek for the credible candidate in the person of Governor Godwin Obaseki. If our desire is to ensure that Edo’s future must not blink, then we must all vote and dream with our eyes wide open.
Obaseki has served faithfully and one good term deserve another to consolidate on the good works already started and initiate even better works. Edo State is basking in the success of Obaseki’s first term but is now sick with ambition of those who want to ruin the joys of the present success.
Let us therefore summon ourselves together and come out boldly to protect the interest of our state and collectively reject the sick and epileptic ambition currently displayed by Ize-Iyamu,” the statement added.
