Detailed Facts on Obaseki’s certificate scandal as PDP, IYMG go to Court.

UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN- More indicting details have emerged on the certificate scandal of Governor Godwin Obaseki who has been dragged to the Federal High Court in Abuja over forgery and perjury.

A 2016 court suit filed by the opposition PDP which was recently uncovered showed that the embattled governor admitted discrepancies in his filed academic credentials.

Despite claiming that he obtained a first-degree certificate of Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies from the University of Ibadan in 1976, a duplicate of the certificate presented by Obaseki indicated that he graduated in 1979, presenting the first contradiction.

Furthermore, Obaseki’s 1976 graduation date claim is also conflicted by another filing showing that he obtained an Ordinary Level School Certificate from Eghosa Grammar School in 1973. Independent findings show that students admitted with Ordinary Level School Certificate require four years of study to obtain a degree. Hence, going by this, Governor Obaseki ought to have completed his University study in 1977 if he was indeed admitted, not the 1976 date he specified.

Presented with these contradictions in 2016, the uncovered court suit showed that Obaseki admitted to the gaffes and shockingly attributed them to a “misstatement”. But this has been dismissed following the consistent presentation of the false, misleading documents by the Governor to scale through the screening process of his party and meet the requirement of INEC.

Another important finding of the uncovered suit also showed that the affidavit Governor Godwin Obaseki purportedly obtained from the Federal High Court in Abuja declaring that he had conveniently lost ALL the original copies of his academic credentials is fake and unknown to the court.

According to the suit, the Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court in Abuja disowned the said affidavit with an additional explanation that it does not exist in the court’s registry.

This, in summary, means that Governor Godwin Obaseki potentially forged his academic credentials and to cover his tracks, proceeded to forge another sworn court affidavit declaring the original of the certificates missing to enable him file the fake duplicates.

Party stakeholders have called for the disqualification of the embattled Governor by the All Progressives Congress until the contradictions are resolved to avoid a repeat of what took place in Bayelsa state.
