A former Deputy Governor of Anambra state, Chief Sir Abolle Okoyeagu has affirmed that Senator Uche Ekwunife is “eminently qualified” to contest the Anambra 2021 Gubernatorial election.
This comes after a malicious propaganda powered by AIF media was sent around after a PDP stakeholder meeting on Tuesday, 9th.
According to the story, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in an emergency meeting at Enugu “sealed the hope of Senator Iyom Uche Ekwunife and Dr Obiora Okonkwo of participating in the party’s primary election for November 6 governorship election.”
The story further stated that the caucus meeting which was attended by Gov Wike of Rivers State “adopted zoning and agreed that the next governorship candidate of the party will come from Anambra south senatorial zone.
“This adoption therefore sealed the aspiration of Dr Obiora Okonkwo and Iyom Uche Ekwunife who are from Anambra central senatorial zone. Though Ekwunife is from Igbo-Ukwu but married to Nri where she currently represents ndi Anambra central at the senate.” The story concluded.
But Chief Abolle Okoyeagu, stepping in, says AIF director erred in the report.
He says –
“AIF Media Director you erred when you reported that Senator Iyom Uche Ekwunife is disqualified from contesting Anambra Guber Election scheduled this year. No such decision was taken at that meeting.
“Let me remind you that she is eminently qualified to contest the Guber election. Were Senator Adaeze Oduah and Josephine Aninih who married EDO STATE Men disqualified from contesting elections in their place of birth?
The Okedike Ndi Igbo in Rivers and Bayelsa States added that “Uche Ekwunife is from Igboukwu in Anambra South and most qualified to run election from any zone she chooses. I think some people are afraid of her gigantic and intimidating profile including her phenomenal followers. I have ENDORSED Senator Uche Ekwunife (Iyom) for the Anambra Governorship election because she has all it takes to win election for PDP simple and she has the winning combination of being born from Anambra south, brought up in Anambra North and married Anambra central. Also Anglican by birth and Catholic by marriage.
“I strongly stand by her and so also many others who think she is the best at this point in time.” The Odejinji of Awka concluded.
