Enugu-Ezike: A lot of tribes in Nigeria have their various  customs and traditions that govern her people’s affairs, which includes  marriage and other matters.

 

When it comes to marriage, the Yorubas, Igbos, Hausas, Jukuns, Idomas, Igalas, and Urobos, to name a few, all have their own customs and rituals, which must be followed dearly to avoid issues .

 

This is why it is highly recommended that someone planning to marry outside of their ethnic group conduct a survey and study to learn more about the area they will be visiting. If you find that you do not agree with their customs, you may withdraw immediately.

 

It is preferable to marrying someone whose rituals and practices will become too strict for you to follow.

Ndishi Traditional in Enugu-Ezike

There is an INDISHI tradition in Igbo Land.

 

Enugu-Ezike is a large town occupying all the whole land of Igbo Eze North local government area of Nigeria’s Enugu state. It shares borders in the north with Benue State, in the south with Ovoko, Amala and Obollo and Kogi State in the West. The People of Enugu Ezike are Igbos by ethnicity.

 

Ndishi, a spiritual being instituted by Ezike Oba before his death, is a spiritual being tasked with dealing with those who breach the land’s marriage customs. The customs bind you as long as you are an Enugu-Ezike indigene.

The following are some of the marital traditions that, if broken, will bring Ndishi’s wrath:

 

  • No man must have an affair with another man’s wife

 

  • Any attempt to kiss or touch a married woman’s waist is a breach that must be dealt with by Ndishi.

 

 

  • Once a lady’s bride price is paid, she must not be found having affairs with men other than her husband.

 

  • Any wife who has an affair with another man while still living in her late husband’s home risks losing her first child to death. If she is serious about doing it, she must relocate. However, if she does return after going out, she must repent and be cleansed in front of the gods.

 

  • As a married woman, you must never make a donation to your relatives or to strangers without first informing your husband, even though the money is yours.

 

  • As a married woman, you must not answer a phone call from someone other than your husband while taking a bath.

 

  • Banging on a woman’s door while she is alone in the house is frowned upon.
