The Enugu State government has shut down Ogbete Main Market due to non-compliance on safety orders.
This was made known in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday, 1st April, by the state commissioner for information, Hon. Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh.
According to the statement, the decision to close the market was conceived shortly after the combined team of the State government officials led by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and heads of security agencies visited the market.
The visit to the market was intended to ascertain trader’s compliance with government’s order closing all markets and borders in the state.
“Following the non-compliance by traders and the urgent need to start the fumigation of the market, the State Government has ordered the closure, including adjoining sections and Akwata axis,” the statement read.
