FLYTIME MUSIC FESTIVAL DAY 4: TIWA SAVAGE REIGNS SUPREME WITH MAGICAL HEADLINE PERFORMANCE

LAGOS—Day 4 of the Flytime Music Festival returned to the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, where thousands gathered to experience the Everything Savage concert headlined by Tiwa Savage on Monday, December 23, 2019.

Day 4 was a night of celebration of mainstream pop music, and Savage’s place at the top of Africa’s pop music scene. Packed with surprises, the singer took the audience through her lengthy discography packed full of hits. She also pulled off what could be considered magic, weaving sets from some of the countries most revered pop stars into her performance.

The night started a little different, with Jimmie Akinsola and comedian Chigurl playing host. Opening performances from curated acts including Alpha P and Dr SID ushered in a symbolic countdown which started at ‘49:99’ and ended with Tiwa Savage appearing on stage for her set.

Savage is regarded as one of the most successful and powerful women in the African music scene. Her debut studio album Once Upon a Time was released in 2013, and her second studio album R.E.D was released 2 years later. Both albums have been highlights of the African music industry. With a plethora of hit records, a lifetime of awards and enough influence on young women, the Flytime Music Festival was her debut headline concert in Lagos.

Starting the night with some of her favorite songs and backed by a live band, Savage found the intersection between emotion and dance, bringing on women for cameo sets including Simi, Teni, and most surprising, Yemi Alade.

Just before she called Yemi on stage, Tiwa said she aimed to go into 2020 on a clean slate and as such felt it was necessary to lay to rest any perceived lingering enmity. She described Yemi as a queen and acknowledged that there is nothing but love between them and she hopes the night proves this to everyone.

“I’m about to bring out Yemi Alade. We do this for the culture. It’s nothing but pure love and I’m glad she agreed to share the stage with me,” Tiwa said. And the crowd went wild.

There were also performances from Wizkid, 2baba, 9ice, Don Jazzy, Wulrd, Wavy The Creator, Joeboy, Poco Lee and more, to complete a powerful set.

Spotted in the audience were many notable faces including International Supermodel; Naomi Campbell, President of Flytime Promotions; Cecil Hammond, Burna Boy’s Mom; Bose Ogulu, Actress; Toyin Abraham and Husband, Media Personality; Toke Makinwa and many more.

After the success of Pepsi Rhythm Unplugged, the classic nostalgia from Boyz II Men on Day 2, and the energy of Megan Thee Stallion on Day3, Tiwa Savage sets things up nicely for a Christmas Day finale with a headliner concert by BURNA BOY.

The Flytime Music Festival is sponsored by Baba Ijebu, Pepsi, Star, Ilubirin, Aiteo, LAASA. Supported by the Concierge Company, DSTV, Eat n Go, Dominos Pizza, Pinkberry.
