” The SIP comprising four senior police officers, is headed by DIG Joseph Egbunike, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in- charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department.

” The SIP, inter alia, is to undertake a detailed review of all the allegations against DCP Abba Kyari by the US Government as contained in relevant documents that have been availed the NPF by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

” The SIP is also to obtain detailed representation of DCP Abba Kyari to all the allegations levelled against him, conduct further investigations as it deems fit, and submit recommendations to guide further actions by the Force leadership on the matter. ”

Reacting to this, Sunday Igboho’ s lawyer in a statement charged IGP Usman Alkali Baba, to make the trial of Abba Kyari open with full press access.

Olajengbesi’ s statement reads in part:

” The Special Investigation Panel must undertake the task before them with a sense of duty and loyalty only to the truth. It must rid itself of bias considerations for, favourable or unfavourable disposition to DCP Kyari while equally availing him ample opportunity to make a representation of his defence against the allegations against him.

” The very image of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly its ethos and claims to be corruption- free is being examined by the watchful public at national and international levels. IGP Usman Alkali Baba thus has an uphill task to dutifully acquit himself in this matter and in doing so, help save the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.

” It’ s, therefore, a demand in the interest of justice that the conduct of the investigations be transparent and open, with full press access. The NPF should know that Nigerians are struggling to trust the process and in view of this the Press must be allowed unfettered access to its proceedings for record and posterity sake, too. ”
