An officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been killed by gunmen during an attack on a rehabilitation centre of the agency in Ebonyi state.
The incident reportedly occurred at Ntezi community in Ishielu LGA of the state.
The gunmen were also said to have killed a patient who was undergoing rehabilitation at the centre during the attack which occurred on Tuesday.
Loveth Odah, Ebonyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident.
She, however, said security agencies killed two of the gunmen, while others escaped with injuries.
“One of the officers and a patient at the NDLEA rehabilitation centre were killed,” Odah said.
“The security agencies are still searching the bush to get some of the gunmen, who were injured.”
According to NAN, the police spokesperson also said two rifles and ammunition were recovered from the attackers.
“Other items recovered include 140 rounds of K2 ammunition, 36 rounds of GPMG live ammunition, 30 rounds of AK-47 rounds of ammunition, a four-runner jeep, motorcycles, military and police uniforms, charms, among others,” Odah said.
