Gangs of Lagos; a film about dreams, love and political thuggery

Jade Osiberu, the film’s producer and director, claimed that the idea for “Gangs of Lagos” first came to her while she was filming a different movie called Giddy Up in Isale Eko.

Jade added that as she watched a mother feeding her children and preparing dinner, the reporters at a news conference she just held in Lagos, Nigeria, “became characters in the story.” She imagined how it would feel to be stuck in Isale Eko while still wanting more for herself and her kids.

She claims that the movie is revelatory and that she intended it to have an impact on people who lead lifestyles that other people cannot comprehend.

Osiberu says that the film is a tale of compassion, love, and dreams.

“Twelve years ago, while I was shooting a series called Giddy Up in Isale Eko, across the window from where we were, I could see into another building’s window section and the people living there.

“Immediately, they became characters in my story. I saw a mother cooking dinner and feeding her children.

“I thought about what it would feel like to live in Isale Eko, stuck there yet desiring more for yourself and your children.

“I wanted to humanise people who live the lives we don’t understand. It’s a revelatory film. It shows political thuggery. It’s a story about empathy, dreams, and love. I also hope people are entertained.” She said.
